Installing Battleships is easy.
First create a dedicated directory and copy ALL files to that directory.
Then make a menu entry from the BBS to link the game to your menu.
There is one switch required from the menu entry. This switch sets
the maximum number of battles a player can have at any one time.
The switch syntax is at the end of the menu entry and must have a space
followed by a dash (minus sign) directly followed by a number from 2
to 7. The range for the maximum battles is 2 to 7, and any other setting
will default to 2 battles per player.
Here is an example to set for 2 games per user (notice the -2)
KEY=B TYPE=200 Opt Data=k:\battle\battle/q -2
or for 7 games you would put:-
KEY=B TYPE=200 Opt Data=k:\battle\battle/q -7
Once you have done this, go to the game and ensure it runs without error.
To test that everything is ok, you can press "D" to declare war, and then
press "V" to view the battles. It should show a list of battles equalling
the number you set from the menu entry. Once this is verified, and assuming
you don't wish to play yourself, you can go to the SYSOP menu and
use ZAP to remove yourself from the game.
As a safety factor, when ever a player enters the game, and no-one else
is there at the time, a backup of the main databases is made, in case
something happens to the working databases. They are called PLAYBACK.DBF
and GAMEBACK.DBF. If for some reason the game has problems due to the
databases getting corrupted (disk error, power loss etc etc) you can
then copy the backup database back to the original files.
PLAYBACK.DBF -> PLAYERS.DBF
GAMEBACK.DBF -> GAMES.DBF
It is advisable to regularly defragment any drives that contain TDBS files.
It is a known problem with TDBS and it will ensure that Battleships and
any other TDBS programs will continue to function correctly.

If you have any problems setting up Battleships then feel free to
NetMail me or call 1990 Multiline BBS. The Sysops know what to
do :-)
